Always on My Mind 搶錢夫妻 (1993)

「搶錢夫妻」(1993) 是許冠文笑中帶淚的代表作品，講述新聞報導員患上絕症而發自內心的轉變，被競爭頭崩額裂的香港傳媒利用而引發起種種瘋狂「搶錢」行為，許冠文也改變了過往風格，除了較多的家庭、子女描寫外，還加入較感性深層的社會諷刺意味，和較悲傷的結局。影后簫芳芳、幕后精英陳可辛、張之亮全力打造，讓「搶錢夫妻」獲得多項第13屆香港電影金像獎提名，包括最佳電影、最佳編劇和最佳女主角等。

“Always On My Mind” (1993) is about self discovery of a man after being diagnosed with an incurable decease. Michael Hui plays the title role as the coward newscaster-turned-opportunistic-moneygrubber, with much help from his “beloved” family.

“Always On My Mind” is a vicious satire that exposes the media industry as somewhat fraudulent, weak, and shallow. All these end up to a rare comedy with a refined combination of laughers with tears and happiness with sorrow.

 

Magic Touch 神算 (1992)

「神算」(1992) 是許冠文七年後回歸自編自導自演崗位，也是自70年代「天才與白痴」以來再次玩絕科幻之作！對於占卜這個歷史傳統、也是當時香港流行「特異功能」的瘋狂構思。素來是詐騙神棍的許冠文突然有了預知未來的能力，最後贏得友誼及大破奇案的團圓結局。「神算」的選角由許冠文找來偶像天王黎明，還有日後棟篤紅人黃子華負責編劇及初次銀幕演出，創下1992年票房佳績，也是許冠文至今最賣座電影之一。

“Magic Touch” has Michael Hui returned to the director’s chair in more than 7 years. In this sci-fi comedy, Michael plays fortune-telling con artist who turned out to really “see the future” and does good deeds.

“Magic Touch” features some early performances of pop star Leon Lai and comedian Dayo Wong. Together they have made this film one of the top films of 1992 and also becoming Michael Hui’s highest box office grossing film to this day.
 

Front Page  新半斤八兩 (1990)

「新半斤八兩」是「許氏三兄弟」相隔近十年後再度整裝上陣的經典作品，也是許冠文踏入90年代對八掛新聞行業的率先見解，許冠文以最深切的諷刺──許冠文、冠英、冠傑兄弟三人親自扮演記者，優默地揭開「狗仔隊」窮追猛打「製造新聞」的面貌，在當時傳媒開始變質的年代，或許就是許冠文的「先天下之憂而憂」，同時也為天下帶來無盡快樂。

「新半斤八兩」自1990年8月24日開畫以來，不但成為全年票房季軍，同時也為許冠文贏得香港藝術家聯會頒發1990年十大藝術家年獎之「最佳演員」大獎。

“Front Page” marks the hugely-anticipated reunion of the classic Hui Brothers (Michael, Samuel, Ricky) after their respective decade-long solo careers. Michael Hui’s comic screenplay gives us his visionary portrayal of the “paparazzi” during the early 1990s when tabloid press changed the face of mainstream media.

“Front Page” opened in August 1990 and went on to become the Top 3 highest grossing films of the year. Michael Hui also took home “Actor of the Year Award” presented by the Hong Kong Artists’ Guild for this unforgettable performance.
 

Mr. Coconut  合家歡 (1989)

雖然在日後的電影裏面，許冠文也會再次出演大陸同胞的角色，但許冠文在「合家歡」(1989)所帶來的第一次震撼是前所未有的，在當時社會上對大陸仍是帶點歧視的時代，許冠文的溫馨單純海南島「椰子先生」，因為機緣巧合來到香港花花世界，輕鬆地以大陸人的角度諷刺當時全民炒股、「水壺」手提電話等時代標誌性現象。「合家歡」是賀歲電影的經典，是許冠文首部衝破3千萬票房力作，並獲得第9屆香港電影金像獎最佳男主角提名。

Michael Hui plays the lovable “Mr Coconut”, who arrives in town from Hainan China where he lived with his coconuts. Here in the sophisticated urban jungles of Hong Kong, “Mr Coconut” has finally met his family, as he endures Hong Kong streets of the late 1980s, filled with stock and property gamblers, heavy mobile phones etc..

“Mr Coconut”, a Hong Kong lunar new year film classic, is also Michael’s first 30 million box office hit in which he received a Best Actor nomination in 1989.

 

Chicken and Duck Talk  雞同鴨講 (1988)

「雞同鴨講」是許冠文80年代電影反映社會現象的顛峰之作。再次演繹老板的許冠文，這回擺脫過往一承不變欺壓下屬的作風，成功演活一位舊式「燒鴨」店老板, 率領「老許記」伙記及家人在面對西方「炸雞」快餐的商業入侵而爭紮轉型求存的故事。

作為「出品人」許冠文首部投資拍攝的電影，「雞同鴨講」集合超強人馬，包括許冠英、張艾嘉、吳啟華、高志森、于仁泰等，還有闊別合作七年的許冠傑客串演出並撰寫主題曲，為整部電影及許冠文奪得1988年香港電影金像獎「十大華語電影」及美國電影學會國際喜劇「最佳男主角」等獎項。「雞同鴨講」首映於1988年7月14日，由午夜場全線爆滿到創下當年暑期最賣座票房紀錄。同年許冠文更獲得拿破崙「商業奇才」娛樂界榮譽獎。

“Chicken & Duck Talk” – Michael Hui’s 1988 classic satire about Chinese food versus the new - in which he plays “roast duck” restaurant owner struggling to survive under the commercial attacks by modern fast-food “fried chicken” enterprise. The “finger linkin’ good” comedy brings you laughter, perhaps a tear, as well as a glimpse of Hong Kong’s appetite changes over the 1980s.

Opened in July 1988, “Chicken & Duck Talk” went from sold-out performances on to become the highest grossing film of summer 1988. Michael’s brilliant screenplay and performance won him “Top 10 Chinese Picture of the Year”, and the American Film Institute’s “Best Performing Actor Award” of 1989.
